Cyryx College Council Members visit Malaysian Universities

Cyryx College Rector, Mr Ibrahim Waheed, and Dean of Students, Mr Anil Adam, met with the senior members of Asia Pacific University and Sunway University in Malaysia to foster a collaborative partnership. The main focus of the meeting was to establish a credit transfer arrangement for Cyryx graduates to pursue higher level courses at these universities and implement a student exchange partnership for both institutes.

Cyryx executive MBA students visits Kurumba Maldives

Cyryx College executive MBA students has visited Kurumba Maldives for their educational field trip experience. A total of 40 students participated on the trip which took place on 07 February 2015. The purpose of this trip is to provide opportunity for self-experiences, observations, sharing knowledge and real world experiences.

The one-day field trip was a very fruitful experience for the students. Workshop style sessions with question and answer were conducted with the HR team of Kurumba Maldives

and the students.

 

A special presentation on the topic ‘HR Strategies, success factors, training and development’ was delivered by Kurumba Maldives Director of HR, Mr. Kennedy Sam and Learning and Development Manager, Mr. Jawahar Shantharaj.

Cyryx College Dean Mr. Ibrahim Waheed and Mr. Ali Saleem, lecturer of Strategic Human Resource Management module of the MBA programme headed the team.

Cyryx College offers gratitude to the management of Kurumba Maldives and the HR team who gave all the support the students needed to complete their assignment. Cyryx management also praises the wonderful arrangements on the trip and the warm hospitality bestowed. In appreciation, Cyryx College Management and students awarded a plaque of appreciation to the management of Kurumba Maldives.

Cyryx College Wins the 2015 Men’s Inter College/University Volley Ball Championship

Cyryx College men’s volleyball team wins its second consecutive Inter College/University Volleyball championship on Monday, April 06 2015, sweeping Villa College in straight three sets (25-19, 26-24 & 25-22) at Youth Center,  in-door hall Male’.

The three sets were extremely competitive and Villa College did manage to put up a fight in all three sets but were not able to turn things around.

 

Hassan Agleen, captain of Cyryx College and Adam Haleem were selected among the best seven players of the tournament while Cyryx coach Junaid Abdulla was awarded the best coach of the tournament. Adam Haleem was also selected the best player of the final match.

A record number Cyryx students and staff flocked to Youth center to cheer for the team. Among the spectators were Cyryx Chairman, Mr. Ahmed Shareef, Dean, Mr. Ibrahim Waheed and Deputy Dean Mr. Jothi Stalin.

After the match, the team thanked Cyryx management and fans for the tremendous support throughout the tournament “We couldn’t have done it without your support!”.

Cyryx Group Signs Memorandum of Understanding with Evolve Technologies of Sri Lanka

On 23 April 2015, Cyryx Group signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Evolve Technologies of Sri Lanka. At a ceremony held at Cyryx College, the MOU was signed by the Chairman of Cyryx Group, Mr. Ahmed Shareef, and by the Managing Director of Evolve Technologies, Mr. K.P.L. Pintoe.

Cyryx Group’s ambitious aim of the inked MOU is to provide reputable software solutions to Maldivian customers.

The MOU also addresses technical and skill development prospects for Cyryx College students. Through this unique MOU, students studying Information Technology at Cyryx College will have the opportunity to conduct research while interning at Evolve Technologies in Colombo.

“This MOU will help Cyryx build information technology specialists who will be experts in the practical side of the field, too” said Chairman Ahmed Shareef.

Cyryx College holds the Employee Appreciation Night

Cyryx College held its second Employee Appreciation Night on 7 August 2015 as part of a monthly series launched last month. The event was marked by a good turnout, bringing the Cyryx College community to enjoy snacks and refreshments in the company of friends and colleagues.

June and July’s Employee of the Month awards were handed out by our Vice Rector Mr. Ibrahim Waheed. Four faculty members and two student services team members were recognized for their outstanding performance and commitment to excellence: Mr. Subash K.R. from the School of Business, Ms. Aminath Javna from the School of IT, and Ms. Shaolene Kibir, Student Services Professional, were the recipients of the awards for June 2015.

Mr. Tubax Xavier from the School of IT, Mr. Jani Augustin from the School of Business, and Ms. Almina Belerma, Student Services Professional, received the awards for July 2015. The honored employees were each rewarded with a gift and a certificate of appreciation.

Noting that competition was tough for the awards Vice Rector Ibrahim Waheed encouraged all faculty and staff members to continue their hard work and dedication to Cyryx College students and to always carry the student-centered approach that Cyryx College so strongly advocates.

Malaysia’s UCSI University Visits Cyryx College to Discuss Partnership Potential

UCSI University’s Vice President of Student Enrolment, Willie Tan, met with Cyryx College’s Dean, Emily Young, on Thursday, 20 August 2015. The two discussed partnership potential at the diploma and degree levels, specifically in the areas of business and social sciences.

 

UCSI University is renowned for offering quality academic instruction linked with practical industrial application, which has made the Malaysian institution an internationally trusted source for higher education.

 

Similarly, Cyryx College continuously strives to prepare its students for today’s competitive job market. With a student-centered focus, Cyryx College hopes to increase internship opportunities, industry knowledge, and real-world experience. Collaboration with UCSI University would provide students with an international perspective while preparing them for an industry-specific field.

 

Dean Young and Vice President Tan discussed the local market and how collaborating in key areas could give Cyryx College students an advantage after graduation.

 

When asked for comment, Dean Young explained: “Our students are hard-working individuals who are full of potential. UCSI’s goals seem to align quite well with Cyryx College’s mission, which is to assist our students in creating a better life for themselves and their families. With co-operative placement and industry-specific modules, this collaboration could certainly jump-start a student’s career by offering them a competitive edge in today’s globalized job market.”

Cyryx College Hosts Academic Enhancement: Professional Development Series

On Monday, 7 September 2015, Cyryx College’s Dean Emily Young facilitated the first session of an in-house training program titled Academic Enhancement: Professional Development Series. The three-session series will cover topics ranging from theory to practical application within the context of the Maldivian school system.

 

As part of the institution’s commitment to quality assurance, Dean Young has spent several months observing and evaluating lectures from across the disciplines. Based on these observations, the training series was developed to answer the specific needs of Cyryx College lecturers, students, and curriculum design.

 

Though the training’s primary audience was initially Cyryx College lecturers, local secondary and higher secondary schools were also questioned about the need for pedagogical training. The response was clear; educators throughout Male’ were eager to attend.

 

As honored guests, representatives from the Centre for Higher Secondary Education (CHSE), Ahmadiyya International School, and Hiriya School joined Cyryx College lecturers for a morning of valuable training, teambuilding, and inspiration. To commemorate their dedication to academic enhancement and educational leadership, participants will receive a certificate of completion for this professional development accomplishment.

 

At the session’s conclusion, Dean Young noted: “We must remember why we chose to be educators—to educate! It is our responsibility, our privilege, to make learning active and engaging for students; students should be part of the learning process rather than sedentary note takers listening to 90 minute lectures. My hope is that today’s participants will use the knowledge gained here to revamp and refresh their classrooms.”

Cyryx College held a media briefing at its Light Sky campus today to announce the introduction of 6 new programs in January 2016 and to inform the public of the ongoing programm at its 4 schools. Cyryx College was represented by Vice Rectors, Ibrahim Waheed and Ahmed Shahid as well the Business Development Director Shimaz Abdul Gadhir. Journalists from major media groups were present at the session.

 

During the briefing, Cyryx College announced the new programs to be introduced in 2016, which are:

Cyryx College students’ project wins at Expo Maldives 2015

A software solution to monitor remote sites, designed and developed by two students from Cyryx College, has been awarded second place (no first place was announced) in the category of phone applications in Expo Maldives 2015. The application was developed by Ahmed Ali and Abdul Latheef Abdul Razzaq as part of their final year project for Bachelor of Information Technology, majoring in Software Design and Development at Cyryx College.

The Intelligent Remote Site Monitoring System (IRSMS) is designed to provide real-time information and deliver notification on fire, environmental conditions, power availability, and unauthorized intrusions into remote facilities, via a mobile phone. This application is compatible with both IOS and android platforms. The solution developed by the students include software as well as hardware components. Many visitors to the Expo expressed their interest to commercially utilize the application.

Cyryx College commences a refresher workshop for journalists under its CSR programme

Cyryx College has today commenced a two-day refresher workshop for journalists under its corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme. The workshop, will cover key soft skills and knowledge areas that are essential for journalists to effectively carry out their work and increase their impact on the Maldivian society. Topics covered in the workshop include sociology and society, research skills, media and human rights, as well as communication skills. The workshop sessions are facilitated by instructors from both Cyryx College and outside.

 

 

At the opening session of the workshop, Vice Rector of Cyryx College, Ahmed Shahid highlighted the key role of media and journalists in shaping our society and its approaches to development, and emphasized that the knowledge and skills gained by participants in this workshop will undoubtedly lead to a better appreciation of these dynamics. He also stressed that the main objective of Cyryx College in conducting this free training programme for journalists is to make a social contribution that has the potential to deepen our understanding of the society and create the necessary conditions for positively re-orienting its future trajectory.

 

A total of 20 journalists are expected to complete the workshop.
