Cyryx College Participated in Dhiraagu Broad Band Road Race 2012

Cyryx College participated in Dhiraagu Broadband Road Race which was held at Raalhugandu on Friday, 29th of June 2012. The event was dedicated to create awareness for a social cause. This year’s run was dedicated to, “against child abuse and domestic violence”.
About 75 students from Cyryx College dedicated their run to this noble cause. All of them completed the race along with the Cyryx College staff.

The first group of runners was from professional and armature category. They started the race at 16:30hrs and after that was the group categories following Cyryx College, Mandhu College, Villa College, Schools of Male’ and government organizations at 16:40hrs. The distance was to run around Male’ within 45 minutes and complete the race.
From each category 1st, 2nd and 3rd place were selected and also an award was given to the youngest and the oldest participant.
The event ended at 18:30hrs with a dance of young youth volunteers from the Youth Ministry. It was an experience to remember for all those who participated.

MOU on Academic Collaboration Signed between Cyryx College and Coventry University, UK

A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on academic collaboration has been signed between Cyryx College and Coventry University, UK on 18 June 2012.
The ceremony was attended by Cyryx College Chairman Mr. Ahmed Shareef, Director Academics Mr. Ibrahim Waheed and Mr. Lawrence D’Souza, Academic Partnership Manager from the Coventry University.
The MOU anticipates providing a framework under which the business relationship between both parties will prosper. Among the terms agreed was a credit rating agreement, in which Cyryx Diploma in Information Technology and Business Administration will be recognized by the Coventry University. Also, students with advanced standing can get entry to Year 2 at Coventry in BSc (Hons) Computing, BA (Hons) Business Management and BA (Hons) Business Administration.

Among the other terms in the MOU, it was agreed by Coventry University to recognize Cyryx Business and IT Degree programs and permit the admission of students to relevant postgraduate programs in the Coventry University. Also to discuss with the understanding to develop and deliver collaborative Degree programs in the areas of Computing and Business Administration.

A Green IT research paper presented in the AGPA Conference by Cyryx Director of Academics

Cyryx College Director of Academics Mr. Ibrahim Waheed, has presented a research paper on behalf of the Cyryx College at a conference held in Bandos Island Resort, Maldives.
The 2nd Annual Conference of Asian Group for Public Administration (AGPA) took place in Bandos Island Resort from 8-10 May 2012. The conference was organized by AGPA Secretariat in association with Civil Service Commission of the Maldives. The theme for this year’s Conference was “Reform and Local Governance: Service Delivery, Transparency, and Accountability”.

Mr. Waheed is a Green IT researcher and has presented 2 papers in different countries during the last few years. The paper he presented at the AGPA Conference is “IT Asset Management and Good Governance: Key Strategies for Implementing Green IT”. The paper highlights the environmental impact IT operations with strong strategies to improve and implement Green IT in the Organisations as well as the Government bodies.
Mr. Waheed’s research paper was well received by the participants as well as the invitees who attended. This gesture creates opportunities and has laid a foundation for Cyryx College as a whole, to establish the pathway for further research in different fields.

CYRYX COLLEGE- Center for Training & Development conducted a workshop on Leadership Capacity Development

Cyryx College- Centre for Training & Development (CYRYX-CTD) conducted a workshop on Leadership Capacity Development, at the Civil Service Training Institute. This is the second such workshop that Cyryx-CTD has conducted. A total number of 15 highly designated participants from different departments of the Civil Services took part in the 3-day workshop held between 5th to 7th December 2011. Mr. Gilbert George was the instructor of this workshop.

The aim of the workshop was to enhance awareness of how participants’ choices affect their leadership and prompt them to take action in the direction of the desired future. The sessions of the workshop were designed in a manner in which participants shared their experiences, and also the opportunities were given to create and deliver their own views. Different areas of leadership were discussed and evaluated along with the discussions on change management, employee performance evaluation methods, performance enhancement, inter-personal relations, crisis management and innovative team handling techniques.

Taylors University to Recognise the Cyryx College Diploma in Office Management and Administration

Cyryx Acting Director, Academics Mr. Ibrahim Waheed has met with Dean School of Computing Banumathy Devi and Assistant Manager International Development and Marketing Sumana Lum Lai Ping from the Taylors University, Malaysia. The meeting was held on 11th November 2011 at Taylors University.

In the meeting Taylors University officials agreed to recognise the Cyryx Diploma in Office Management and Administration programme for advanced standing in business-related undergraduate programmes. They further agreed to maintain and implement the current signed MOU with Cyryx until the year 2015, which provides students with Diploma in Information Technology and Software Engineering, an advanced standing of 144 credit points (1.5 Years) or three semesters.

Management and Science University to recognise Cyryx Diploma with 1 ½ Years Exemption

A meeting was held between Management and Science University, Malaysia and Cyryx College on 11th November 2011 to discuss establishing an academic partnership between both Colleges. The meeting was attended by the Acting Director, Academics Mr. Ibrahim Waheed from the Cyryx College and Dean Faculty of Business Management and Professional Studies Professor Dr. Ali Khatibi from MSU.
During the discussions, MSU officials agreed to recognise the Cyryx Diploma programmes and provide 1 ½ years exemption from related undergraduate programmes at MSU Campus in Sri Lanka. It gives the students a great opportunity to complete their degree within 1 ½ year after their diploma at Cyryx College.

Year 1 Exemptions to Cyryx Diploma Students from KDU Undergraduate Programmes
Officials of KDU University College, Malaysia and Cyryx College have met to discuss the establishment of an academic partnership. Separate meetings were held with the School of Computing and School of Business. The meeting was attended by Cyryx Acting Director, Academics Mr. Ibrahim Waheed and Head School of Computing Communication and Media Studies Dr. James Kuake, Head School of Business and Law Dr. Victor Yu and Department Heads from KDU.

The discussions held were regarding enhance opportunities to the students, who complete the Diploma programmes from Cyryx. School of Computing agreed to give the students exemption from year 1 from the KDU Bachelor of Computing (Hons) programme and the School of Business agreed to give year 1 exemption from the KDU Bachelor of Business (Hons) programme. The signing of the MOU between Cyryx and KDU will be held soon.
Meeting with the School of Computing, Communication and Media Studies was held on 10th November 2011 and the meeting with the School of Business and Law was held on 15th November 2011, at the respective schools.

Academic Partnership to be Established between Cyryx College and KBU

A meeting has been held between KBU International College, Malaysia and Cyryx College on 4th November 2011, to discuss establishing an academic partnership between both Colleges. The meeting was attended by the Acting Director, Academics Mr. Ibrahim Waheed from the Cyryx College and Principal Dr. See Hoon Peow, Deputy Principal Liew Wai Fan, Registrar Chiu Hong Choy and School Heads from KBU.

During the meeting, discussions were held regarding allowing the students with a Cyryx Diploma in IT and Diploma in Office Management and Administration to get directly enrolled into the 2nd year of the KBU undergraduate programs and terms were agreed on how to give exemptions.
At the end of the meeting, both Colleges agreed on ways to transfer credits and additional ways to give academic collaboration. A draft copy of the MOU is to be exchanged.
KBU Principal Dr. See Hoon Peow expressed interest in visiting Cyryx College to observe the facilities and resources. Mr. Ibrahim Waheed was given a tour of the College after the meeting. The meeting took place at KBU College.

CYRYX College Celebrates Teachers Day 2012

Cyryx College- Centre for Training & Development (CYRYX-CTD) conducted a workshop on Leadership Capacity Development, at the Civil Service Commission (location: Civil Services Training Institute).
The workshop aimed at developing multi-dimensional leadership capacity and appreciable leadership attributes. A total number of 20 highly designated participants from different departments of Civil services participated in the 3-day workshop held between 10th to 12th October 2011. Dr. Gurutej S, Director – Academics and Dr. Francisca S Rebello, Head-School of Business were the facilitators of this workshop.

The sessions of the workshop were designed in a highly interactive mode and have the leadership capacity-driven through both conscious and subconscious mode. Different areas of leadership were discussed and evaluated along with the discussions on change management, employee performance evaluation methods, performance enhancement, inter-personal relations, crisis management and innovative team handling techniques.

Cyryx students participated in the Billabong High Children’s day event

Cyryx College students have taken part in the children’s day events organized by the Billabong High International School. A total of 17 students from the Cyryx College participated in the ceremony which was held on Thursday, 10 May 2012in the Billabong High School.
The ceremony started with the recitation of the holy Quran followed by a special assembly. School Principal, Wafa Waheed, and a teacher gave a speech on the occasion. Some students of Billabong high performed a drama with a teacher’s event after that. The ceremony was concluded with a dance by the Cyryx students.

Thirteen classrooms were decorated for the special events of the day in which students of grades 1-5 participated. Cyryx students helped with all the games and were in charge of the face painting classroom. All the students of Cyryx College wore identical tags representing the college.
Billabong High International School announced that they would be giving certificates of appreciation and recognition of participation to all the Cyryx students with a photo cd of the special day, at the end of the week.
The ceremony and the events were held from 09:00hrs to 14:00hrs.
