Introduction

This is a first systemized introduction of the student to the study of childhood and children. The purpose of this course is to equip the student with the background knowledge that he/she needs to develop an understanding of the elementary school child and his socio cultural contexts.

Students will be aware of the various historical perspectives that surround early childhood education. The course will throw light on some sensitive issues pertaining to child abuse and highlight the importance and the role played by family in developing the right frame of mind for the child.

These courses are necessarily the foundation upon which subsequent courses and practicum related to school internship would be based.
