Cyryx College wins the boys and girls category of the Inter-College Handball Tournament 2016

Cyryx College has won the boys and girls category of the Inter-College Handball Tournament 2016 with a comfortable victory over Villa College.

This is the second conservative win for Cyryx College’s boys team, who are now champions of the year 2015 and 2016.

In the girls final, Cyryx College defeated Villa College by 9 goals to 2 while in the boys final Cyryx College triumphed over Villa College by 19 goals to 5.

Five players from Cyryx College; Dheema Mohamed, Hawwa Riusha, Naabith Ismail, Shaushad Zameer and Ahmed Razunee were among the six best players selected from the tournament.

Conducted by the Handball Association of Maldives, the tournament was participated by Cyryx College, Villa College, MI College, Islamic University of Maldives and Arabiyya School. The tournament was held on the Kulhivaru Ekuveni Dhandu.

Cyryx College IT students to design and implement IT infrastructure for Beautiful Eyes Down Syndrome Association

Cyryx College students has begun a project to design and implement IT infrastructure and services, in the Cloud, for Beautiful Eyes Down Syndrome Association.

A group of three Bachelor of Information Technology (System Administration) students will carry out this work during the Project modules in the second and third year of their degree program. The second and third year Project modules of the BIT (SA) degree program requires students to develop, propose, design and implement IT solutions for real life requirements by actual clients.

Ms. Aishath Shifa, Chairperson and Mr. Ahmed Ansaam, Founder of Beautiful Eyes, highlighted the challenging situation of NGOs and thanked Cyryx College and its students for the initiative. Vice Rector Mohamed Shareef described the initiative by the students of Cyryx College and thanked Beautiful Eyes for the opportunity.

Beautiful Eyes Down Syndrome Association is an NGO working for the benefit of people with Down Syndrome. It was formed by a group of parents on 14th November 2012 with a mission of providing people with Down Syndrome and their families with proper care, training and assistance and to create awareness among public.

Leaders@Cyryx College – Leadership – The Sustainable Development Perspective

Mohamed Inaz, Expert on Sustainable Development, delivered a guest lecture at Cyryx College on 13th August 2016. With a Masters in Geo-Information System from Wageningen Agricultural University and the Institute for Aerospace and Earth Sciences in Netherlands, he specializes in viewing development through complex lenses and layering solutions for long term sustainability.

The lecture was on the topics ‘Leadership-The Sustainable Perspective.’  He explained how sustainable development tries to make interaction between Social, Economic and Environmental aspects of a society. He also emphasized the importance of a balance between these three pillars.

On 23rd July 2016, Ismail Rafeeq, founder and CEO of ibay delivered a guest lecture to MBA students of Cyryx College. His talk was on the topic “Redefining the Trading Landscape in Maldives”. Students described the lecture as informative, engaging and thought provoking.

Cyryx College and Microsoft discuss Industry Academia Collaboration

Cyryx College has met with a team from Microsoft (Asia Pacific Region) to explore industry academia collaboration and technology in higher education. Vice Rector, Academic Affairs, Mohamed Shareef and Deputy Dean, School of Business, Aminath Shahida of Cyryx College met with Education Director, Public Sector for Asia Pacific Region, Don Carlson and APAC Devices Solutions Specialist, Public Sector – Education, Amit Pawar of Microsoft to present and discuss areas of collaboration between Microsoft and Cyryx College with the aim of enhancing academic activities at Cyryx College.

During the meeting, Vice Rector Shareef highlighted that Cyryx College has been the premier trainer and education provider in information technology in Maldives for over two decades and that Cyryx College believes that partnership with industry is the key for developing and maintaining the position in the future. The members of the Microsoft team expressed their interest to partner with Cyryx College in a number of areas that would bring in new opportunities and enhance quality of education delivery at the College.

Students of Cyryx College participate in radio forum – Dhivehinge Mujuthamau

Over 40 students of Cyryx College participated in the radio forum “Dhivehinge Mujthamau”, a production of Public Service Media in collaboration with Ministry of Islamic Affairs.

The topic of this week’s forum,  “Dharinge Haqqu thah – The Rights of Children” was addressed by three guest speakers; Dr. Amaal Ali, a leading expert on social issues in Maldives,  Mr. Ahmed Ashraf from Ministry of Gender and  Sheik Izzudheen from Ministry of Islamic Affairs.

Dr. Ali’s and Mr. Ashraf’s  talks focused on the importance of child rights and the importance of making sure these  rights were respected, protected and fulfilled by the society  while religious scholar Sheik Adnan focused on child rights from a religious perspective.

The forum also provided students a platform to have an interactive question and answer session with the experts.

Cyryx College July Intake Orientation

Cyryx College welcomed the newest batches of Bachelor’s Degree students this Saturday, 16th July 2016. Orientation session held at Cyryx College Galolhu Campus was hosted by Vice Rectors Mohamed Shareef and Jothi Stalin.

During this session, Vice Rector Stalin presented details about the structure of programs offered at Cyryx and explained various aspects of student life on and off the campus to maximize learning during their time at Cyryx. Vice Rector Shareef highlighted the importance of Education and urged students to utilize their study life in the college to achieve their personal aspirations and goals in life. He also advised students to take full advantage of the support that will be offered to them and to make wise use of their time as mature learners.

Furthermore, both Vice Rectors briefed students about the resources and support services available at the college.

Cyryx College Convocation 2016 held at Dharubaaruge

Cyryx College holds its annual convocation at Dharubaaruge on 25 May 2016. More than 230 students who have completed various certificate, diploma, degree and masters programmes graduated in the ceremony. Students who won the chairman’s awards and the prestigious “Ogaru Faiza Ali Award for Excellence” were honoured in the ceremony. This year’s “Ogaru Faiza Ali Award for Excellence” was awarded to Ali Mamdhooh (Master of Business Administration), while the Chairman’s Top Achievement Award went to Shaeen Rasheed (Bachelor of Business), Abdul Latheef Abdul Razzaq (Bachelor of Information Technology) and Ali Mamdhooh (Master of Business Administration).

In opening the convocation, Rector Dr. Ahmed Shahid emphasised on the strong focus of Cyryx College in providing worthwhile knowledge and skills to all students and highlighted some of the key achievements of the college in the past. He also urged all graduates to sustain the hunger for learning and continue to pursue educational opportunities. The member of College Council Dr. Ahmed Adham stressed on the need for graduates to be active in pursuing their dreams and goals and the need to strive for excellence.

The chief guest of the ceremony, Minister of Home Affairs Hon. Mr. Umar Naseer congratulated Cyryx College for its great achievements in the past 22 years and expressed his hope that Cyryx College will become Cyryx University in the near future. Addressing the graduates, he emphasized the need to inculcate a stronger culture of work ethics and respect for time. He urged all to value the time engaged in work and not to waste it on frivolous tasks. He also underlined the need to learn from failures and to never give up on good ideas.

The convocation was attended by a large number of dignitaries, parents and other invitees. Cyryx College congratulates all graduates and award winners.

11 Journalists have completed the Refresher Workshop organized by Cyryx College

11 journalists from various media groups in Maldives have completed the two-day refresher workshop orgnanised by Cyryx College under its corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme. The workshop was designed to provide the participants with soft skills and knowledge in several areas that are essential for carrying out their work and to increase their impact on the Maldivian society. Topics covered in the workshop include sociology and society, research skills, media and human rights, as well as communication skills.

  

At the closing ceremony of the workshop, certificates were handed over to the participants by the President of the Broadcasting Commission, Mohamed Shaheeb. In his address to the participants, he emphasised the importance of training and skill development for journalists in order to improve the quality of the media in general. He also thanked Cyryx College for taking the initiative to provide skills development opportunities for journalists, which he stressed will contribute positively towards developing a stronger and more responsible culture of journalism in Maldives. Vice Rector Ahmed Shahid outlined key areas covered in the programme and expressed that Cyryx College will continue to provide such opportunities to various sectors of the society in order to make a positive educational contribution to the Maldivian society.

Cyryx students competes in international handball tournament

Cyryx College students, Ahmed Shaneez, who is currently studying for Bachelor in Business (Finance), who is also the Captain of under 20 National Handball Team, Hassan Nazeeh, who is studying for Diploma in Human Resources Management and Ahmed Wafad Hilmy, who is studying for Certificate III in IT, travelled to Pakistan from 8th March 2018 to 19th March 2018 to compete on International Handball Federation South and Central Asia Men Youth and Junior Trophy” tournament to represent Maldives.

The teams won the tournament’s Fair Play Team trophies. Over the past couple of years, many Cyryx College students have participated in such international sports competition and have excelled in such sports.
